Publications

VAF's own publications showcase scholarship in the field of vernacular architecture and are a significant resource for readings in the field.

Vernacular Architecture Newsletter (VAN) is our first publication, published quarterly and occasionally monthly and includes VAF news, calls, and features as well as the ongoing Bibliography.

VAF's journal has appeared in two formats. Perspectives in Vernacular Architecture was published in ten volumes between 1982 through 2007. Buildings & Landscapes has been published twice a year since 2007. In addition to traditional print formats, journal articles are available digitally via subscription and at most research libraries.

Our conference Guidebooks, produced annually in conjunction with the Vernacular Architecture Forum conference.

VAF also sponsors the Special Series in Vernacular Architecture, sort, well-illustrated works that introduce, clarify, and explore key themes in vernacular architecture.
