Two Utahs: Religious and Secular Landscapes in the Great Basin West
Tom Carter, Conference Chair
The conference will highlight the central role the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, more widely known as the Mormon Church, played in this place-making process, while at the same time acknowledging the significant contributions of non-Mormon groups as well. Rather than framing the narrative within a simple Mormon/non-Mormon opposition, however, we have chosen to break the story down into a more fundamental dialogue with religious and secular forces: both Mormons and non-Mormons had to find ways of making a living and they did this by utilizing and exploiting the ample natural resources of the region.
Registration will open in late February.
