VAF Virtual Conference 2021

Once again this year, VAF will offer a Virtual Conference, providing members with opportunities to sample and engage with current scholarship in the field of vernacular architecture.  We are pleased that this year our offerings will take place over two days so we can add more components from our usual annual conferences.  Friday, 21 May will include items usually covered at our opening reception and our banquet while paper and poster sessions are scheduled for Saturday, 22 May.   All of this will be presented as Zoom meetings, hosted by Brent Fortenberry and his colleagues at Texas A & M University.

This year the conference will be free to VAF members. To access the pages with the Zoom links, you will need to have logged into the VAF website.  Please check into the VAF website in advance of the conference to be sure you can log in and that your membership is current. Friday’s events will begin at 2:00pm and run to about 5:30 Central Daylight Time. We will conduct a brief annual meeting and announce the recipients of our annual awards and prizes, a panel will offer their vision for field work’s future, and Ken Hafertepe will offer a glimpse ahead to our long-awaited visit to San Antonio in 2022.  At the end of the day, a selection of breakout rooms will allow smaller groups to gather and catch up.

On Saturday, paper and poster sessions will run from 10 am to 5 pm Central Daylight Time. There will be three blocks of paper sessions, each session including both 20-minute papers and 10 minute works in progress, At midday, poster presenters will be available to answer questions and discuss their posters.
